It’s that time of year again! Here at MisplacedStraws there is an obsession with Christmas music. From the early days of rock right up to brand new releases, there are so many great Christmas songs and records.  Each year we check in with some top artists and see what their favorite Christmas songs are.  Michael Sweet, best known as the singer, guitarist, and songwriter with Stryper, recently took some time to talk about his favorites as well as details on his upcoming Christmas live stream on 12/19! It’s a fun conversation!

Please press the PLAY icon below to hear My Favorite Christmas Songs – Michael Sweet –

5 – Elvis Presley “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”/”Blue Christmas”
I grew up listening to those songs, many, many, many times and I grew up being a huge Elvis fan. My dad is probably the biggest Elvis fan on the planet.
4 – Chuck Berry “Run Rudolph Run”
A big influence of mine, believe it or not, in terms of guitar playing. I used to air guitar on my bed to this gentleman’s music.
3 – Nat King Cole  “Oh Holy Night”
Every time I hear it I get goosebumps. I would play it over and over again for the kids when they were little and it became one of their favorite songs as well.
2 – Mariah Carey  “All I Want For Christmas Is You”
That’s probably the #1 on most everybody’s list, maybe even one of the most popular songs every Christmas. I always felt that was finally a new Christmas song that could hold it’s own against any old Christmas song.
1 – Stryper “Winter Wonderland”
Every year at Christmas time we would play that song live.  I never will forget the electricity that would go through my body when we would perform it and the crowd would sing along and the joy that they got and the joy that we received from that.  It holds some really special memories in my heart.
I’m doing a live streaming event up in New Hampshire on Dec. 19 with a band.  More acoustic-driven, we’re going to have 6 or 7 Christmas songs and 6 or 7 solo/Stryper songs.
